Pangea Makes Fourth Acquisition, Buying Travel Tracking Pioneer to Supercharge Its Place Genome AI with Real-World Travel Data
The acquisition adds a rich behavioral layer of real-world travel history, deepening Pangea's understanding of how people actually travel while supporting both personalized discovery and its newly launched real-world experiences business.
NEW YORK, NY – September 21, 2026 — Pangea, the AI platform for social travel and real-world experiences, announced the acquisition of My Travel Tracker as it continues consolidating fragmented travel technology, communities and proprietary datasets into a single ecosystem. This marks its 4th acquisition following Overlap, Nomadago, and Flaire, all within the last year.
An early pioneer in travel tracking and digital journaling, My Travel Tracker helped travelers map their journeys, document experiences and build a living history of the world they had explored, capabilities that have since become core to category leaders serving tens of millions of travelers.
That history adds a new behavioral layer to Pangea's platform: which routes travelers follow, the destinations they combine, and what they choose to document along the way. The acquisition builds directly on Pangea's purchase of Flaire's AI portfolio earlier this year, including its proprietary Place Genome, developed through more than $6 million in strategic R&D.
"The Place Genome helps us understand the granular facets of a place and how they map onto a given traveler's tastes. My Travel Tracker helps us understand how people actually experience those places," said Matt Gray, Founder & CEO of Pangea who has personally traveled 123 countries in his mission to visit them all. "Rather than relying only on what travelers say they like, we can increasingly learn from what they actually do. Every authentic journey makes our Travel DNA richer, our Place Genome smarter, our recommendations more personal and our real-world experiences more relevant."
Adding Real-World Behavior to the Place Genome
Pangea's AI strategy is built around two complementary intelligence layers: Travel DNA and the Place Genome.
Travel DNA captures where a traveler has been, what they love, how they like to travel and the experiences that resonate most. The Place Genome identifies what makes destinations distinctive and matches them with the people most likely to appreciate them.
My Travel Tracker adds a third signal: real-world behavior. A recommendation might show that someone loved a particular restaurant or neighborhood. Travel history adds the context around it: the route that led there, what came before and what was worth photographing along the way.
Together, those signals help Pangea personalize where someone should go next, what to experience and who to experience it with.
Bringing MTT's Community Into the Real World
My Travel Tracker's most engaged users have built trip histories across dozens of countries and developed a genuine habit around travel. They plan their next trip while still on the current one.
That community maps directly onto Pangea Trips, which launched earlier this month with social travel experiences planned across more than 50 countries in 2027, including off-the-beaten-path destinations like Angola, Iraq, the Galápagos, Somaliland, Central Asia and more. Pangea’s broader IRL experiences business is led by Caroline Lupini, longtime Managing Editor of Forbes Points & Miles and an experienced traveler who has visited 130 countries.
MTT's community doesn't need to be convinced that travel matters. They need somewhere remarkable to add to the map, and the right people to experience it with.
"I built My Travel Tracker because I wanted a simple, beautiful way to document everywhere I went and share those journeys with others heading to the same places," said Sacha Schellevis, Founder of My Travel Tracker. "Joining Pangea feels like the perfect home for that vision. I'm excited for the MTT community to become part of a much broader global travel community, and for the photos and stories they've documented to help inspire where people go next."
Pangea plans to rebuild My Travel Tracker's tracking and journaling functionality inside its core AI platform. Existing travel histories will become the foundation of each traveler's Travel DNA, preserving documented journeys while connecting them to Pangea's discovery, recommendation and social capabilities.
Building a Broader Travel Ecosystem Through M&A
My Travel Tracker follows Overlap, Nomadago and Flaire as part of Pangea's strategy to consolidate a fragmented market where valuable products, communities and data exist in isolation.
Each acquisition adds something different. Overlap and Nomadago expanded Pangea's social travel network. Flaire added proprietary AI, the Place Genome and patented social recommendation technology. My Travel Tracker adds behavioral travel history and a community ready to travel again.
"The hardest part of consolidation is knowing which products matter and how to bring them together without losing what made them valuable," said Ashley Woods, Pangea Board Advisor & Seasoned M&A Tech Executive "Matt has a rare advantage because he has spent years using these products as a traveler himself and knows from first-hand experience how they can fit into a broader platform while continuing to serve the people who loved them. The opportunity is to combine the technology, data and communities so the whole becomes more valuable than the parts, and users get more excited about the larger mission."
Rather than leaving acquired communities inside standalone products, Pangea connects them to its global community, personalized discovery and real-world experiences immediately after onboarding, often before the acquired technology is even fully integrated.
The world has no shortage of travel apps. What’s been missing is a platform that knows you as a traveler, backed by real global network density: a community of trusted travelers with firsthand experience around the world who can help you decide where to go next. Every acquisition brings Pangea closer to that vision by adding new people, data and expertise to the network, while its growing real-world experiences business turns that network into action, helping people live their bucket list with incredible people.
About Pangea
Pangea is the AI platform for social travel and real-world experiences, led and advised by former ION Group executives applying a proven M&A-driven consolidation strategy to one of consumer tech's most fragmented categories.
With four acquisitions completed, Pangea is consolidating fragmented travel apps and communities into a single ecosystem and combining their data, networks and technology to build an AI platform for personalized travel discovery, connection and recommendations. Its global community creates an immediate path to sustainability through IRL trips, events and experiences, while the resulting data, network and technology compound toward Pangea's long-term vision to build the AI platform for social travel.
